पहचान (Identity) :- Past perfect Continuous Tense के वाक्यों से ज्ञात होता है की कोई कार्य भूतकाल से चलता आ रहा है परन्तु कार्य अभी तक समाप्त नहीं हुआ है। इस tense के वाक्यों में कार्य की अवधि भी दी गयी होती है।
इस tense की विशेष पहचान भी अन्य tenses की तरह वाक्य के अंत के शब्दों से की जाती है अर्थात अगर किसी वाक्य के अंत में अगर रहा तह रही थी रहे थे इत्यादि आये तो उसे tense को Past perfect Continuous Tense की श्रेणी में रखा जाता है।
इस प्रकार के sentences में ‘से’ का प्रयोग समय के साथ किया जाता है।
Past perfect Continuous Tense को भी तीन प्रकार के sentences में विभाजित किया गया है।
साधारण वाक्य (Positive Sentences)
Rule 1:- Past perfect Continuous Tense के साधारण वाक्यों में हर subject के साथ ‘had been’ helping verb का प्रयोग किया जाता है।
Rule 2:- Positive sentence में verb की पहली form का प्रयोग किया जाता है और verb की पहली form के साथ - ing का प्रयोग किया जाता है।
Rule 3:- Past perfect Continuous Tense में समय को दर्शाते हैं और समय को दर्शाने के लिए ‘Since’ और ‘for’ का प्रयोग किया जाता है।
Rule 4:- अगर समय निश्चित होगा तो, अर्थात निश्चित समय को दर्शाने के लिए हमेशा ‘since’ का प्रयोग किया जाता है।
Example: - 8 O’clock, since 2001, since evening आदि।
Rule 5:- वाक्यों में ‘for’ का प्रयोग ‘Since’ के बिल्कुल विपरीत होता है, अर्थात अगर अनिश्चित होगा तो इस दशा में हमेशा ‘for’ का प्रयोग किया जायेगा।
Examples: - Five days, For Six months, long time, six hours, seven years etc.

(A) साधारण वाक्य (Affirmative Sentences) rules in Hindi
Rule 1:- Past perfect Continuous Tense के positive sentences में जो rules लागू होते हैं वह सभी rules negative वाक्यों में भी लागू होते हैं इनमें फर्क यह है कि negative वाक्यों में ‘नहीं’ ‘Not’ का प्रयोग अतिरिक्त किया जाता है।
Rule 2:- इस तरह के sentences में “not” का प्रयोग हमेशा had और been के बीच में किया जाता है अर्थात had के पश्चात और been से पहले किया जाता है।

- मैं दो घंटे से तैर रहा था।
- I had been swimming for two hours.
- अजीत तीन घंटे से प्रोग्राम देख रहा था।
- Ajeet had been watching the program for three hours.
- राजेश आपकी वंहा पांच घंटे से इंतजार कर रहा था।
- Rajesh had been waiting for you there for five hours.
- निशा सुबह से अचार बना रही थी।
- Nisha had been making pickles since morning.
- घूंघर 2001 से इस गांव में रह रहा था।
- Ghunghar had been living in this village since 2001.
- सचिन दो बजे से शो देख रहा था।
- Sachin had been watching the show since 2 O’ clock.
(B) Past perfect Continuous Tense नकारात्मक वाक्य (Negative Sentences)
- निशा चार घंटे से अपने कमरे में नहीं सो रहा थी |
- Nisha had not been sleeping in their room for four hours.
- उसके पिताजी चालीस मिनट से कहानी नहीं पढ़ रहे थे।
- His father had not been reading the story for forty minutes.
- बच्चे मैदान में तीन घंटे से हॉकी नहीं खेल रहे थे।
- The children had not been playing hockey on the ground for three hours.
- राजेश इस शहर में 1995 से नहीं रह रहा था।
- Rajesh had not been living in this city since 1995.
- प्रतीक सुबह से प्रतिज्ञा का इंतज़ार नहीं कर रहा था।
- Prteek had not been waiting for Prtigya since morning.
- मैं मनीष को तीन घंटे से सम्पर्क नहीं कर रहा था।
- I had not been trying to contact Manish for three hours.
(C) प्रश्नवाचक वाक्य (Interrogative Sentences)
Interrogative में दो तरह के वाक्य होते है पहला जिनमे 'क्या' शब्द वाक्य में सबसे पहले आता है और दूसरी दशा में 'क्या' शब्द वाक्य के बीच में भी आता है। इन दोनों case में structural में बदलाव आता है।
यदि वाक्य क्या के साथ शुरू होता है :-
Rule 1:- जैसा कि हम जानते हैं की interrogative sentences हमेशा ‘क्या’ के साथ शुरू किये जाते हैं। और इस tense के interrogative sentences को helping verb Had के साथ शुरू किया जाता है। Had के बाद subject और फिर उसके बाद been का प्रयोग किया जाता है।
Rules 2:- यदि कोई वाक्य interrogative negative हो तो इस case में Not का प्रयोग subject और been के बीच में किया जाता है।

Interrogative Sentences की दूसरी दशा
कई बार interrogative sentences में 'कब', 'क्यों', 'क्या', 'कैसे' का प्रयोग वाक्य के बीच में होता है इस case में इन शब्दों का प्रयोग had के साथ किया जाता है और had हमेशा वाक्य के शुरू होने पर लगाया जाता है।
Helping verb had के बाद subject और उसके बाद been का प्रयोग किया जाता है और उसके बाद verb की first form के साथ ing लगाया जाता है।
अगर Past perfect Continuous Tense के प्रश्नवाचक वाक्यों में interrogative के साथ अगर negative भी हो तो not का प्रयोग been से पहले किया जाता है।
